Finding Love at the Ballet on Both Sides of the Footlights

Barbara and Larry Kellar

Finding love at the ballet isn’t limited just to the dancers and artists on stage. As a case in point, Barbara and Larry Kellar, funders of Cincinnati Ballet’s Principal Artist Endowment Fund, were destined to fall in love through ballet.

Sharing a passion for dance, they met on a Cincinnati Ballet trip to Russia in 1973 to see performances of the Bolshoi and Kirov Ballets. Since then, Larry has served on the ballet’s Board of Trustees since 1974 and was Chairman of the Board for almost 20 years. In fact, he is the longest standing Board member, and now an Emeritus Board trustee.

In 2014, the couple created the Barbara and Larry Kellar Principal Artist Endowment Fund, whose purpose is to support outstanding talent in the top principal ranking at Cincinnati Ballet.  They have also endowed weeks of live music from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra to accompany ballet performances.

Barbara and Larry’s continuous support of the comprehensive art of ballet has truly allowed Cincinnati Ballet to rise to the ranks of the premiere American ballet companies.  And, their love of each other – and of ballet – continues to have a significant impact across the arts in our city.

Here’s to Larry, Barbara, and to love…and its amazing impact on all of us!
