If you’re going through Wicked withdrawals like we are, Septime Webre’s The Wizard of Oz is a visually stunning production with, out of this world projections that will transport audiences deep into the heart of Oz. Just as you would expect with anything in Oz, this is a grand production with lots of moving parts. Here are some fun facts about our production of The Wizard of Oz.
To stage a production as big as The Wizard of Oz, did you know there are a total of 68 stagehands, dressers, stage managers and designers. For the stage crew there are 400 light cues; including 79 total projection cues, 162+ spot cues, 48 flying cues, 40 rail cues, 8 scene change cues and 10 special effect cues for things like bubbles, fog and dry ice.
The wardrobe department for The Wizard of Oz makes 96 dyed shoes in 21 different colors with around a dozen being the ruby red slippers for Dorothy. There are also 617 costumes, 106 hats and 100 costume changes.
There are tons of props that make the world of Oz come to life including 43 puppets, 214 props/set pieces, 30 hanging scenery and 4.5 tons of lighting hung.
There are a total of 43 roles in the show, 8 flying roles and 17 flying dancers made up of 29 company dancers, 10 second company dancers, 10 PTD and 15 YP/Academy roles.
There are 58 musicians in the pit, playing a total of 44 songs. 26 songs in Act I and 18 songs in Act II.
