COMMUNITY DIVISION


The Academy’s Community Division features flexible and diverse class options for students ages 10 – 17. The program’s structure is designed to support students who may be interested in a single class as an enhancement to other pursuits or who are looking to design a more individualized course schedule. Featured classes include a wide array of dance disciplines from jazz and street dance to musical theater and ballet.

Community Division Classes

About Community Division Classes

Community Division classes are open to all students ages 10 – 17 desiring to explore unique dance styles, requiring more flexible class schedules or seeking to augment their training with additional courses. Community Division students have the option to perform in the Academy’s Community Division Showcase and may be eligible to audition for select Company productions.

Students may enroll in a single class or multiple based on their goals or objectives. Formal placement is not required. Enrollment is for the full Academy Year (August – May). All classes take place in person at the Margaret and Michael Valentine Center for Dance.

  • Ballet pink or flesh-toned ballet slippers (Ballet classes)
  • Black tights, jazz pants or shorts (Jazz, Musical Theater and Street Dance classes)
  • Black jazz shoes (Jazz and Musical Theater classes)
  • Sneakers (Street Dance classes)
  • Hair pulled back and neatly secured

OR

  • Academy Dance Shirt in White
  • Black tights or leggings (Ballet classes)
  • White socks (Ballet classes)
  • White ballet shoes (Ballet classes)
  • Black tights, jazz pants or shorts (Jazz, Musical Theater and Street Dance classes)
  • Black jazz shoes (Jazz and Musical Theater classes)
  • Sneakers (Street Dance classes)
  • Hair neatly styled and away from face

*Students may select between the tank and long-sleeve leotards. Preparatory, Young Dancer and Advanced Division students participating in Community Division classes may wear their PD, YD or AD Academy leotard for classes.
