Corps de Ballet


Abbey Gonzalez Kay began her ballet training at the International Ballet Academy in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. There she completed the Royal Academy of Dance examinations, receiving “Distinction” on all three levels (Intermediate, Advanced I, Advanced II). This qualified her to participated in the 2011 Royal Academy of Dance Geneé where she competed as a semi-finalist in Cape Town, South Africa. In 2012, Kay joined the Sarasota Ballet as an Apprentice, was promoted to Corps de Ballet in 2013 and danced through the 2016-2017 Season. While a member of the Sarasota Ballet, Kay toured to Washington, D.C. to perform in the 2013 “Ballet Across America” and New York City for the 2014 “Fall for Dance.” Some of her favorite performances with the Sarasota Ballet include George Balanchine’s Valse FantaisieWho CaresFour Temperaments, and Jewels, Rudolf Nureyev’s Raymonda Act II, and Antony Tudor’s Lilac Garden.

Kay joined Cincinnati Ballet as an Apprentice for the 2017-2018 Season. During her first year in the company Kay had the opportunity to perform Travis Wall’s Then…Now, Victoria Morgan’s Romeo and Juliet, George Balanchine’s Serenade and Rubies, Nicolo Fonte’s Carmina Burana, Garrett Smith’s Facades, and Justin Peck’s Murder Ballades. Kay was promoted to New Dancer for the 2018-2019 Season and promoted to Corps de Ballet for the 2019-2020 Season. Other performances Kay has enjoyed dancing since joining the company include “The White Cat” and “Generosity Fairy” in Devon Carney’s The Sleeping Beauty, Jiří Kylián’s Sechs Tänze, Adam Hougland’s Rite of Spring and Firebird, “Glinda” and “Emerald Ballerina” in Septime Webre’s The Wizard of Oz, and “Big Swan” in Kirk Peterson’s Swan Lake.
