Advanced Division

The Advanced Division is the pinnacle of pre-professional training within the Otto M. Budig Academy aimed at preparing students for future careers in dance or collegiate pursuits. Advanced Division students continue to refine their technical knowledge and capacity while exploring their unique gifts as a performing artist. Faculty mentorship becomes more regular as students consider their personal goals in dance.

Open to students based on placement assessment.

ADVANCED DIVISION LEVELS

ADVANCED DIVISION LEVEL 1

About AD Level 1: AD Level 1 students focus on refining advanced technique and begin seriously expanding their knowledge of classical ballet repertoire while developing their capacity in other styles. Students train in other dance disciplines including Variations, Contemporary and Conditioning. AD Level 1 students participate in classes five times per week and have the option to engage in additional elective classes. Eligibility for AD Level 1 is by placement only.

Core Classes: Ballet Technique, Pointe, Variations, Contemporary, Conditioning

Performance Participation: AD Level 1 students participate in the annual Spring Production and may be eligible to audition for select Company productions.

Location: All classes take place in person at the Margaret and Michael Valentine Center for Dance.

ADVANCED DIVISION LEVEL 2

About AD Level 2: AD Level 2 builds in intensity and focus as students consider potential career or collegiate goals in dance. Students at this level dive even more deeply into artistic style and refinement while building their technical versatility with classes in other dance disciplines including Modern, Contemporary and Conditioning. AD Level 2 students participate in classes five times per week and have the option to engage in additional elective classes. Eligibility for AD Level 2 is by placement only.

Core Classes: Ballet Technique, Pointe, Variations, Contemporary, Modern, Conditioning

About AD Level 3: AD Level 3 is the final level in the Academy’s pre-professional training programs, aimed at preparing students technically and artistically for success in professional division programs, traineeships, or collegiate-level dance. Students at this level are well-versed in a multitude of styles through the study of other dance disciplines including Contemporary, Modern, Choreography, and Conditioning. AD Level 3 students participate in classes five times per week and have the option to engage in additional elective classes. Eligibility for AD Level 3 is by placement only.

Core Classes: Ballet Technique, Pointe, Variations, Contemporary, Modern, Choreography, Conditioning

Performance Participation: AD Level 3 students participate in the annual Spring Production and may be eligible to audition for select Company productions.
